Scenic Jacksonville is pleased to welcome Ron Littlefield as its guest speaker at the second annual Great Cities Symposium. Littlefield is former two term mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee and current senior fellow with the Governing Institute. There, he serves as lead analyst for the City Accelerator initiative.

While mayor, Littlefield oversaw the undertaking of Vision 2000 — one of the first large scale visioning projects in the U.S. — credited with changing public outlooks and attitudes, paving the way for Chattanooga’s transition from the “dirtiest city in America” to a new local economy based on environmental sustainability and quality of life. Activated in 2010 as part of Vision 2000, “The Gig”, Chattanooga’s municipal gigabit network of high speed internet was an unconventional, controversial idea by Mayor Littlefield. Today it’s the backbone of the city’s entrepreneurial hub, attracting tech startups and launching an Innovation District. Is there a lesson for Jacksonville?

The event begins at 5:30 with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by Mayor Littlefield’s remarks at 6:15. Tickets are $100 per person and include the speaker program, discussion to follow, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Seating is limited so purchase tickets today at the link below.
