First Coast Connect: State of the Canopy in NEFL

The region is losing trees, according to a Florida Forest Service report, and a plan is needed to protect and grow the canopy. Urban forestry professionals were interviewed on WJCT’s First Coast Connect to discuss the state of the tree canopy in Northeast Florida.  Jonathan Colburn, head of the city’s Urban Forestry team and an ISA Certified Master Arborist, joined Forester and Arborist Joe Anderson from JEA to discuss maintaining and growing the tree canopy.  Lisa Grubba, executive director of nonprofit Greenscape, talked about the importance of trees to the community.  Jessica Palombo, editor of WJCT News, discussed the upcoming Town Hall, to be co-hosted with Greenscape Wednesday, September 17, 2025.  Click here to listen to the audio; it’s at 29 minutes into the segment.
