Historic Gift DOUBLES Greenscape Endowment

Jacksonville, Florida, September 13, 2024 – Jacksonville’s oldest tree advocacy organization is pleased to announce it has received the largest gift in its 49-year history, doubling its endowment. Greenscape of Jacksonville, Inc. was granted $500,000 by the River Branch Foundation, a committed supporter of conservation issues in Florida.

“We are honored, humbled, and grateful for the support this lends to our mission to Plant, Promote and Protect trees in Northeast Florida,” said Lisa Grubba, executive director. “Greenscape is growing and this will help us meet the demand for more canopy coverage in the hottest of Jacksonville neighborhoods and outreach to citizens in those neighborhoods, as well as all across the First Coast.” Grubba added the funding will support educating the public about how to care for and preserve the trees on their property, educating youth about careers in the growing field of urban forestry, and provide tree books to young children in less-served communities.

Greenscape’s endowment is held at the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. Funds are used to support the group’s efforts to replenish the region’s tree canopy, advocate to elected officials for support of the urban forest, and connect with citizens through volunteer-based tree plantings, tree maintenance and educational programs.

Greenscape of Jacksonville, Inc. is Florida’s oldest nonprofit tree advocacy organization, and the second oldest in the country. In its 49 year history, the grassroots advocacy group has added more than 350,000 trees to the tree canopy in Northeast Florida through volunteer plantings in parks, schools and roadways.
